United States President Barack Obama contacted Yingluck Shinawatra Prime Minister of Thailand on Saturday to congratulate him on his election as prime minister of the Southeast Asian country.
The White House said, they underscored "the eternal nature of US-Thai friendship and their alliance," and pledged to strengthen bilateral ties and work together to ensure peace and stability in the Asia Pacific region.
Yingluck began performing his duties as Thailand's first female prime minister on Monday after Pheu Thai party won a large victory in elections last month.
