Largest City in U.S. Drought, Residents Asked to Limit Water Usage

HOUSTON - The fourth largest city in the U.S., Houston, on Monday (15 / 8), announced the mandatory restrictions on water supply and other measures due to the continuing drought.

The restrictions, issued by the Mayor of Houston Annise Parker, demanding people to fix all the leaks that could be known within 72 hours of repairs, and limit outdoor watering so two days in a week.

The city will begin with an informal warning and campaigns, said Parker. He added that people who repeatedly breach will be fined.

Other water saving measures include the cancellation of plans to wash the windows and buildings, termination or equipment washing city vehicles except for critical maintenance or security reasons, health, and orders audits of all irrigation systems.

Houston follow a number of major cities in the area, which impose water restrictions due to ongoing drought. Texas, where the presence of Houston, formally located in the middle of the two worst drought in history, officials said weather service meteorologist.

The state faces a rainfall of less than one inch in July, and more than 90 percent of Texas is currently at the stage of the second most extreme drought. The states have faced 10 months of the dry in a row in history.
