MOSCOW - The killing eight people in southern Russia this week allegedly in revenge, according to a team of investigators on Saturday, adding to growing fears that Moscow is in the grip of criminal gangs.
The body of a local criminal group leader Vladimir Slizayev, aka Khan, was found on Friday night along with seven others including a driver's body, family members, as well as baby-sitter.
Interfax news agency quoted a law enforcement official as saying that the murder was committed with the motive of robbery or retaliation by the head of the family.
Mass murder is the second time that occurred in southern Russia since November, when 12 people were family members killed by a criminal gang in a village near the Black Sea coast, where a main Olympic 2014 in Russia.
Governor of the region, Alexander Tkachyov, suspect the involvement of police officers with gang suspects who committed the murder.
President Dmitry Medvedev criticized the law enforcement agency in its annual state address last year, accusing some of them have relationships with certain criminal groups
